LUCY FATO APPOINTED DEPUTY GENERAL COUNSEL AND CORPORATE SECRETARY OF MMC

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, September 12, 2005 - Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC) has announced the appointment of Lucy Fato as deputy general counsel-Corporate for MMC Legal. Ms. Fato will also serve as corporate secretary for MMC.

Ms. Fato will be responsible for overseeing all corporate matters involving MMC. She will report to Peter J. Beshar, senior vice president and general counsel of MMC.

Ms. Fato, 39, was most recently a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell. She joined Davis Polk in 1991 and became a partner in the Corporate Department in 2000. Over the past 14 years, she has represented issuers and investment banks in a variety of capital markets transactions, including equity, debt, and convertible bond offerings. She has also regularly advised companies on corporate governance, Securities and Exchange Commission compliance, and Sarbanes-Oxley matters.

Ms. Fato received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
