MMC GIVES NYC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
A GLIMPSE INTO CORPORATE LAW

NEW YORK May 24, 2007 - Twenty-five students of a Brooklyn high school will conclude an educational law program with an all-day conference on Wednesday, May 30, at the Manhattan headquarters of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC), the firm announced today.
The program and conference are part of an inaugural and unique partnership of MMC, Street Law, Inc. and the High School of Public Service in Brooklyn, New York. Street Law is a non-profit organization that provides practical, participatory education about law, democracy, and human rights. The High School of Public Service is a community service-oriented public school located in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. MMC is the first corporation in New York City to host such an event with Street Law.
"Our students are young leaders from Brooklyn who have a strong interest in legal careers but often lack exposure to corporate culture and the variety of professions available in this sector of the legal field," said Patricia Anderson, a teacher at the High School of Public Service. "This partnership with MMC is a unique opportunity for these students to take advantage of New York City's status as a global center of business and law and build relationships that will translate into a more diverse legal profession in the future."
The May 30 conference is the culmination of a multi-week program in which MMC's Legal Department educated students about insurance law, employment law and negotiation skills. MMC's legal professionals will also offer personal mentorship and career guidance to students who might be interested in a career in law.
The all-day conference is intended to reinforce the students' lessons with interactive workshops and give them a glimpse into MMC's corporate legal practice. The day will end with an awards ceremony in which the students receive a certificate of completion of the program.
Michael G. Cherkasky, president and chief executive officer of MMC, said, "As a company, MMC is committed to pro-bono activity and this partnership has been a rewarding experience for the legal team here. Our colleagues have been impressed with the students from the High School of Public Service, and with their interest in learning more about the law and the culture of a large corporation."
Mr. Cherkasky is a former prosecutor with the New York County District Attorney's Office.
Lee Arbetman, director of U.S. Programs at Street Law said, "This partnership with MMC has been a truly enlightening experience for these students. MMC and its dedicated corporate legal team worked smoothly and cohesively to make a strong impression on the students, helping pave the way for careers in the legal profession and ultimately introducing more diversity into the legal sector."
MMC will work again with Street Law for another partnership scheduled for the fall of 2007.
